Anyway, a minute ago I checked how much visitor activity my blog has had lately and the amount of visitors has increased about tenfold today from normal average. That's a bit odd isn't it? Even odder is that all the extra visits are from all around US and results of google search of "city at latitude 60 degrees" or something similar. So what in the world has made the Americans google our latitude so frantically? If you know and/or are one of those googlers, please let me know! This really intrigues me, I feel as if I'm cracking the Da Vinci code or something.

If you were still wondering about all the googling, "capital at 60 degrees latitude" was a clue in the New York Times crossword puzzle on March 1 -- which I'm just doing now, so my google found your blog! Funny.

I found your blog by googling 60 degrees latitude after reading an article about airborne wind generators that fly high in the sky and which take advantage of the jet stream at 30 and 60 degrees latitude in each hemisphere.
In the United States there is a special license free allocation in the longwave range called LowFER. This experimental allocation between 160 kHz and 190 kHz is sometimes called the "Lost Band". Unlicensed operation by the public is permitted south of 60 degrees north latitude, except where interference would occur to ten licensed location service stations located along the coasts. Regulations for use include a power output of no more than 1 watt, a combined antenna/ground-lead length of no more than 15 meters, and a field strength of no more than 4.9 microvolts/meter. Also, emissions outside of the 160 kHz–190 kHz band must be attenuated by at least 20 dB below the level of the unmodulated carrier. Many experimenters in this band are amateur radio operators.
I too live at 60 degrees north in Shetland. I was wondering if there was anyone else on this latitude and came across your blog while searching. We are very lucky in Shetland because we are surrounded by the sea. this keeps us cool in summer and warm in winter.

I was curious about climate at 60 and cities there. It is winter here in N.J. (USA) I want to write an essay on my thoughts about winter. I'm google cities 60 north because of a math project that requires you to use sin/cos equations to show day length through out the year. Everyone at my highschool has to do this project for a latitude.
